SPERI Paper No.2 ‘Capitalist Diversity, Work and Employment Relations’ by Professors Christel Lane and Geoffrey Wood is here! It follows on from the first SPERI Paper ‘ The British Growth Crisis: A Crisis of and for Growth’ by Professor Colin Hay (Director of SPERI), published in February 2013, and you can download them both, free, here!
In this second paper the authors contribute to the longstanding intellectual debate about ‘Varieties of Capitalism’, focusing in particular on the implications of capitalist diversity on work and employment. Their paper is wide-ranging and brings this debate up to date.
Both Christel Lane and Geoff Wood are widely published authorities in this field. Christel is Professor Emeritus of Economic Sociology and a Fellow of St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge. She has written extensively in the area of ‘comparative capitalism’ and is currently finishing a book entitled The Cultivation of Taste: Michelin-starred restaurants in Britain and Germany to be published by Oxford University Press. Geoff is Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick. His two most recent books are the Handbook of Institutional Approaches to International Business (Edward Elgar, 2012) and Capitalist Diversity and Diversity within Capitalism (Routledge, 2012).
