We are delighted to announce that Professor Vivien Schmidt has agreed to take over as Chair of SPERI’s prestigious International Advisory Board (IAB). As recently announced here, the previous Chair, Professor Andrew Gamble, has been appointed to a Professorial Research Fellowship at SPERI and the Department of Politics of the University of Sheffield following his retirement from the University of Cambridge. He has therefore had to stand down from membership of the IAB.
Professor Schmidt has graciously accepted SPERI’s invitation to take over Andrew’s position as Chair. She is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Professor of Political Science at Boston University in Massachusetts, USA. She has authored and edited many important books on the political economy of European capitalism. Her latest book, co-edited with Mark Thatcher, is Resilient Liberalism in Europe’s Political Economy, Cambridge University Press, 2013.
Vivien has been a member of SPERI’s International Advisory Board since SPERI’s inception in 2012 and attended SPERI’s summer conference in 2013. She knows the Institute well and we welcome very much her closer involvement in our work.
