What is Civic Capitalism? an interview with Colin Hay in Prospect Magazine

In their new book  Colin Hay and Tony Payne  define Civic Capitalism as follows: “The governance of the market, by the state, in the name of the people, to deliver collective public goods, equity and social justice.”

Jonathan Derbyshire explores this perspective in an wide-ranging interview with co-author Colin Hay which was published in the Prospect magazine today. Seeking to explain Civic Capitalism and its place in the context of the crisis, Derbyshire and Hay cover a number of issues: the revival of political economy, how capitalism is conceptualised today, how to get markets right, the politics and economics of austerity and the future of social democracy.
