We are pleased to share the video of our ‘In Conversation’ event with David Willetts which took place yesterday evening (Wednesday 23 March) in Firth Hall. You can watch the video here.
The event was the fourth of SPERI’s ‘In Conversation’ Events|News and videos of all four can be on SPERI’s Itunes series. Our previous ‘In Conversation’ guests have been Professor David Marquand, Bank of England Chief Economist Andrew Haldane and TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady.
The evening was introduced by Professor Richard Jones before Professor Andrew Gamble and David Willetts began their conversation. David and Andrew discussed a wide range of subjects spanning the evolution of his political views, how he became interested in intergenerational inequality, his views on Europe and the forthcoming referendum and higher education policy. An audience Q&A session followed and David replied to a series of questions related to his time as the Minister for Universities and specifically about the introduction of £9,000 student fees and resulting increase in student debt.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, asked questions and engaged with the debate on social media. Special thanks go to our volunteers and to Blackwells bookshop for providing an excellent display of books which included Civic Capitalism by SPERI Directors, Tony Payne and Colin Hay, and The Pinch by David Willetts.
You can see photos of the event on facebook.
