Irini Katsirea is Reader in International Media Law in the Department of Journalism Studies. She studied at the Free University of Berlin, at the University of Leicester (LLM) and at Magdalene College, Cambridge (PhD).

Her research interests are in the areas of International, EU and Comparative Media Law and Policy. She has recently been elected as Expert Fellow of the EPSRC Sprite + network, and is involved in the H2020 COMPACT project on ‘Social Media and Convergence’.

She is the author of Public Broadcasting and European Law. A Comparative Examination of Public Service Obligations in Six Member States (Boston, Kluwer, 2008) and of Cultural Diversity and European Integration in Conflict and in Harmony (Athens, Ant. N. Sakkoulas, 2001). She has also published extensively in leading law journals including the Yearbook of European Law, the European Law Review, European Public Law, the Cambridge Yearbook of European Legal Studies and the Journal of Media Law.
