Sumon Kumar Bhaumik has a Chair in Finance at the Sheffield University Management School. He is also a Research Fellow at IZA – Institute of Labor Economics, Bonn and a Fellow of the Global Labor Institute. He is also a member of the peer-review college of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Southern California.
Sumon’s research interests cut across economics, finance and international business. Within the broad area of finance, he focuses on issues related to ownership of companies and corporate governance, and the impact of regulatory and other changes on credit and capital markets. Over time, his research interests have shifted from the role of institutions and regulations per se to the political economy of formal institutions and regulations, and wider governance issues.
Sumon’s papers have been published in highly visible journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking & Finance, and Journal of Development Economics. He has also been the Primary Investigator or Co-Investigator for grants, fellowships and projects awarded by ESRC, the British Academy, UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), UK Trade & Investment and Nesta.
