Alvaro Martinez-Perez is a Lecturer in International and Comparative Social Research Methods at the Department of Sociological Studies. He earned his doctorate in Applied Social and Economic Research from the University of Essex. Prior to joining the University of Sheffield he worked as an evaluator of public policies for the Government of the Autonomous Province of Trento (IRVAPP – Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Italy) and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Sociology and Organisational Analysis at the University of Barcelona. In Sheffield he has been a Research Associate in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Management School.
His research interests include social stratification and inequalities in the family, gender, labour market and education; he is also interested in electoral behaviour and in key areas of business and management such as the undeclared economy and informal work with a focus on cross-country comparative work using large-scale datasets. He is an expert in advanced quantitative social research methods. His research has been published in academic journals in sociology, political science and business and management as well as in books and book chapters in these disciplines.
